Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  Behind the excellent goaltending of Ondrej Pavelec the Jets were able to overcome some sloppy play and won their fifth straight game.  The win maintains their spot as the second wild card team in the West.  Of course there is no rest for the wicked as they play in Vancouver tonight starting at 9 pm cst.

Games of significance last night:  Kings won. Wild won. Sharks lost. Flames won.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Newbies pave way for Jets.  Usually it has been the Buffalo duo that has been doing the damage for the Jets.  While that was again the case last night you can add Stempniak and Tlusty who added some punch to the Jets attack.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets dump Oilers.  Paul breaks down last night’s Jets win and once again the play of Ondrej Pavelec in net is a big part of the story.

NHL.com:  Stempniak powers Jets past Oilers 4-1; Winnipeg keeps pace in playoff hunt.  If you look above at the games of significance all the teams the Jets are battling with for a playoff spot managed to win (aside from the Sharks).  Team couldn’t afford to take Edmonton for granted, they didn’t and as a result left Alberta with two critical points.

Edmonton Sun:   Jets seem to have Oilers goal horn operator on their side; why not?  When the goal horn went off after the Jets second goal and with all the Jets fans in the crowd cheering if you didn’t know better you could have thought you were at the MTS Centre.

Edmonton Sun:  Oilers don’t measure up to rising Jets team.  Sounds like many who cover the Oilers had pegged the game against the Jets as a measuring stick game.

Sportsnet: Going nowhere but up, Jets rebuilt the right way. Lots of folks around the NHL pointing out that the Jets are a team on the upswing. Fans around these parts hope that assessment is correct.

Times Columnist:  Flames, Jets and Kings may be fighting for one playoff spot in West.  Of course all three of these teams won last night as we hit that final sprint toward the conclusion of the NHL season.  Could you imagine if the Jets/Flames game to end the Jets regular season on April 11th would determine a playoff spot for either team?
