Note: That was certainly a home stand to remember. The Jets have put themselves solidly into the mix for a playoff spot after going a perfect three for three at the MTS Centre this past week. They head out for a back-to-back in Edmonton and Vancouver on Monday and Tuesday as they try to secure a playoff spot.
Note II: The Jets are giving fans a chance to win a Dustin Byfuglien All-Star game-worn jersey. Details here.
Games of significance last night: Wild won. Flames lost (OT). Canucks won. Kings lost. Sharks lost. Stars won.
Games of significance tonight: Canucks (vs. Coyotes).
Jets news:
CBC: Jets stay in thick of playoff race with win over Caps. Jeff reflects on the Jets circumstances exactly two years ago (yesterday) when the Jets found themselves facing a Washington team with an opportunity to make some noise. Of course he reminds us of one of the best coach Noel quotes of all time “They’re playing chess, we’re playing checkers”. He also looks at Mark Stuart playing the hero and Ondrej Pavelec standing on his head.
Winnipeg Free Press: Pavelec keeping hot streak in perspective. Coach Maurice referenced a team that is even keel following a win or a loss and that is how Ondrej Pavelec appeared in his post-game scrum following his fourth win in a row and after receiving plenty of adulation from the MTS Centre faithful.
Winnipeg Free Press: Pavs earns shutout as Jets blank Caps 3-0. The Capitals have delivered some serious punishment to the Jets playoff hopes in the past so it was impressive that the Jets were able to pull off a huge Saturday night victory at the MTS Centre. Ed breaks down the win in his column.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets administer Capital punishment. While the goaltending of Pavelec was big the continued dominance of the Jets line of Wheeler/Scheifele/Stafford had been simply spectacular as they continue to put up big points.
NHL.com: Game, Jets, Match. It really is quite impressive to be without Little, Perreault and Byfuglien and to have hardly missed a beat.
Washington Post: Stymied Capitals pleased with effort but ‘upset that we lost’. The Capitals should be pleased with the effort they put forth because they could have just as easily come out with a different outcome if they had a bit more puck luck. It was a good back and forth battle.
MyToba.ca: Pavelec’s resurgence key to Jets push towards playoffs. Goalies are the first to get praised but also the first to get torched for a team’s performance. Nobody has felt this more than Ondrej Pavelec but Scott writes that despite the pressure he is shutting it out and playing some inspired hockey.
Jets 3 Capitals 0:
Winnipeg Jets: Blake Wheeler, Ondrej Pavelec, Mark Stuart and Mark Scheifele.
Washington Capitals: Coach Trotz, Karl Alzner, Curtis Glencross, Tom Wilson and Eric Fehr.
Coach Maurice post-game presser: Coach Maurice met with the media following the game against Washington.
Pressbox Podcast: Host Drew Mindell and analyst Richard Pollock break down the Jets play against the Capitals this evening.
Jets on a Deadline: Game recaps, post-game audio, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.
