Note: The Jets went 2-1-1- over this four game home stand. As no other teams of significance played last night, Winnipeg remains in the first wild card spot, although the teams chasing the Jets have games in hand. The Jets head on the road for four games against Nashville, St. Louis, Florida and Tampa Bay. Not an easy stretch but one in which the Jets will have to continue to pick up critical points if they want to maintain their playoff position.
Note II: The team is off today so we likely won’t get a Byfuglien update until Friday but be sure to stay tuned to @illegalcurve on twitter to ensure up to the minute breaking Jets news.
Games of significance tonight: Calgary, Minnesota, Vancouver and Los Angeles.
Afternoon Jets updates:
Yahoo Sports: Buzzing the Net. The scouts’ take on the top 10 NHL-drafted prospects and Jets fans will be very happy to see that they have two notable players on the list.
Metro Winnipeg: Hutchinson doing nothing but good for the Winnipeg Jets. Hustler writes about the Jets rookie goalie has had on the team and the importance he will have down the stretch.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Loss stings but Jets plan ‘bounce-back’ in Music City. In this league, win or lose, you have to be able to put the last game behind you and switch your focus to your next opponent. No point in worrying about what might have been had you done something differently in the previous game.
Winnipeg Free Press: Sens just have Jets’ number. They certainly didn’t have a ton of quality chances but they got stellar goaltendng from Hammond and they capitalized on the Jets mistakes.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets’ future yet to be written. No point in reading your press clippings until after you’ve accomplished your goals for the season. The Jets still have plenty to achieve before they can make any assumptions about their season.
Winnipeg Free Press: Boy who gave up Jets stick gets surprise gift. Kudos go out to everyone involved as this story continues to get better and better.
Winnipeg Sun: Just one of those nights for Jets. Lots in this column by Paul including coach Maurice’s mind games not working, Hutchinson gets the hook, Ottawa rookie goalie rocks, #33 injured, emergency goalie measures (Panthers situation), time for review and putting things into perspective.
Winnipeg Sun: Hamburglar steals game from Jets. It wasn’t difficult to figure out who the 1st star of the game was last night as the rookie goalie was simply sen-sational for the visiting team.
Ottawa Citizen: Senators’ Hammond finishes off road trip in grand style against Jets. When you are hot, you are hot. And the Senators rookie goalie has ripped off six wins in seven games. Read about the game from a Senators beat writer.
Sporsnet: Hammond’s head saves a goal (video). What a crazy play and impressive save. Had to watch the replay a few times to realize that he had made the save with his head.
Sportsnet: Byfuglien injured on fluky play (video). It is very difficult to see what exactly he did to aggravate the injury but he was clearly in pain and didn’t return to the game in the 3rd.
Senators 3 Jets 1:
Jets honour Canadian Armed Forces in pre-game ceremony. The team donated $100,000.00 to military families and gave the men and women of the Armed services the opportunity to interact with the players and coaches following the game.
Winnipeg Jets: Michael Hutchinson, Andrew Ladd, Michael Frolik, Jiri Tlusty and Lee Stempniak.
Ottawa Senators: Coach Cameron, Andrew Hammond, Erik Condra and Kyle Turris.
