Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets return to Winnipeg following a disappointing two game road trip in which they secured just one of a possible four points. They now face the Stars (Tuesday), Blues (Thursday), Kings (Sunday) and Senators (Tuesday) in a critical four game home stand.

Note II:  The team is off today, which based on the comments made by coach Maurice following the loss last night, is exactly what he wants for his squad as it sounds like he feels they need some time to get their legs back.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Losing to Leafs… man, that hurts.  The Jets just weren’t a team that looked like they were competing for a playoff spot.  

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets fall to woeful Leafs in overtime.  Despite all the Jets fans at the ACC they weren’t enough to help the quasi home team get past a pretty awful Toronto team.

Winnipeg Sun:  Leafs’ Winnik proves worth to possible suitor.  It should prove interesting if he actually is acquired by the Jets and if Chiarot misses any length of time as a result of their 2nd period fight.

Winnipeg Sun:  Kane says trade was ‘maybe … overdue’.  Even thought he is no longer a member of the Winnipeg Jets, Evander Kane is making news in the city as he revealed that he had asked for a trade.  Ken breaks down the presser he held with the Buffalo media. 

Globe and Mail:  Jets let Leafs back into the game, lose in overtime.  I actually forgot that the Leafs are the team who played (and lost to the Hurricanes) the night before.  It wasn’t very evident based on the level of play.  Read the recap from a Leafs beat writer.

Ottawa Sun:  Talk should heat up this week.  Jets are the second team listed ‘going shopping’ in Garrioch’s Sunday column.

Sportsnet:  Jets’ surprise No. 1 thankful Bruins gave up on him.  He has had a lot more opportunity within this organization.  His rise from the ECHL to the NHL has been quite remarkable.

Leafs 4 Jets 3 in OT:

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice post-game (audio).   How were the Leafs able to take over the game?  Not too many 5 on 5 chances.  Status of Ben Chiarot?  Is the team not skating as well as they are capable of?  On the physical aspect of the game.
