Note: The Illegal Curve Hockey Show will be on TSN 1290 Radio Saturday from 12 Noon – 3:00 PM. Join Drew, Richard and Ezra as they analyze the Jets’ season opening win versus Arizona, discuss what the Evander Kane injury means for the Jets, both short-term and long-term, and preview Saturday night’s game versus San Jose, and Sunday night’s game versus the Los Angeles Kings. Guest: Jim Fox (Kings analyst on Fox Sports West).
Note II: In perhaps the closest vote ever for an IC Poll, we asked the question “What are your expectations for the Jets this season?”. It was basically a tie as 37% of you said out of the playoffs (9-11) and 37% of you said in the playoffs (5-8). The out of playoff folks actually ended up with two more votes so this poll victory goes to them! Thanks to all who voted.
Jets news:
USA Today: 10 with something to prove. For the naysayers who suggest Ondrej Pavelec could never be #1 they should read this article by Kevin Allen. And yes that is sarcasm folks.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets howl in Arizona. Tim breaks down the dominating game by the visitors last night as they spoiled the Coyotes home opener.
Winnipeg Free Press: Lowry debut packs ’em in. It was a laundry list of friends and family who came to watch the third round selection back in 2011 to make his NHL debut.
Winnipeg Free Press: Chevy says Slater, Scheifele, Maurice keys. After practice yesterday the GM chatted with the media and covered these three questions: 1) Why do you think the team will be better this season? 2) What have you discovered about Paul Maurice you didn’t know when you brought him in last January? and 3) What’s the background to acquiring Peter Budaj this week?
Winnipeg Sun: Jets blast Coyotes in high-flying opener. Ken was in Glendale and files this report following a big win to open the season for Winnipeg. I checked the Jets media guide following the game and it turns out Blake Wheeler’s two goals in 15 seconds broke the old record held by Atlanta Thrashers Shean Donovan and Patrik Stefan for the quickest back-to-back goals in a 1st period which they achieved against the Bruins back in 2001.
Illegal Curve: Kane leaves the game in 1st period with lower body injury. Just 3:12 into the first period of Game 1 on the 2014-15 calendar the Jets lost their sniper. Bob McKenzie of TSN said this yesterday on twitter: “There’s not likely to be any definitive word on Evander Kane’s apparent knee injury tonight. MRI tomorrow will tell the tale”. We will monitor and provide any updates.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets rookie Adam Lowry just trying to enjoy ‘special day’. He has shown a maturity and poise since he has arrived at camp.
Winnipeg Sun: Proud papa Dave Lowry thrilled to see son Adam make NHL debut. His dad played many years in the NHL and knows how difficult it is to play in this league.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets assign O’Dell to IceCaps. There was some consternation amongst Jets nation when he hit the waiver wire but it proved unfounded as O’Dell cleared.
Jets 6 – Coyotes 2:
Coach Maurice post-game: Coach Maurice met with the media following the game against the Coyotes.
Jets on a Deadline: Game recaps, post-game audio, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.
