Winnipeg Free Press: Best words ever ‘Can I show you to your seats’. After waiting 15 years, when you’re finally walked to your new seats, it really is a special feeling.
Winnipeg Free Press: Got a spare room big enough to park a Jet. A number of players like Nik Antropov have already been in the city, touring properties.
Terrace Standard: Former resident named goalie coach in NHL. A little more info on the Jets new goalie coach.
Canadian News Wire: Scotiabank on board with AHL’s St. John’s. In addition to being a win for the Jets new affiliate, it will be quite the boon to hockey in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets ink Russian centre. While it’s a nice signing by the Jets, more interesting is the nugget that also appears in the story:
Meanwhile, a Russian news organization is reporting that winger Nikolai Zherdev wants to play for the Jets.
Is it the new logo causing massive sales of Jets gear or starved Winnipeg fans. More after the jump as well news of lockout talk and Northlands viable with or without the Oilers.
NBC Sports: New logo prompts Winnipeg Jets merchandise to fly off shelf. I’d suggest that a 15 year drought prompted the merchandise to fly off the shelves. They could have made the logo a seagull and people in this hockey mad city would have flocked to buy it. Remember that the Jets old logo still sells like hotcakes.
Windsor Star: Windsor and Essex County to host U-17 hockey challenge. I think people in Winnipeg are ok with losing this event as a result of the Jets returning.
Around the NHL:
National Post: What the #!%*?: Is the NHL headed towards another lockout. After waiting 15 years for the NHL’s return, not sure Winnipegger’s want to see hockey stop, even if it meant the owners were able to get costs down.
Edmonton Journal: Northlands is viable, with or without the Oilers revenue. The President and CEO of Northlands suggests that the Oilers are nice but not solely responsible for the arena surviving.
