The 2023 World Championship is set to get underway in Finland and Latvia in 10 days times with 16 teams participating. Team Canada takes on host country Latvia on May 12th to get the tournament started.
Two members of the Winnipeg Jets who could have been going but will not be are Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrissey. Both were injured in the first round series with Vegas with Morrissey suffering a lower-body injury in game 3 and Scheifele suffering an upper-body injury in game 4.
During the end of season media avails on Saturday the pair were asked about the nature of their injuries and both declined to get into any specifics. Morrissey said that it shouldn’t impact him into next season and that he’d be “100% ready to go”.
However they both indicated that they would not be going to the World Championship.
Scheifele has played for Team Canada at the World Championship three times (2014, 2016 & 2017) while Josh Morrissey has done so once back in 2017.
