It has been a tough season for Jets centre Mark Scheifele who began it with a suspension which was a holdover from the second round of the playoffs last season. He then dealt with covid early on which cost him some games and despite the talk of making the Canadian Olympic team his game never reached that level which had him as a lock to be on the team (which was moot anyways as the NHL obviously didn’t go).
Despite it all he still hit 70 points (29G 41A) in 67 games which is the sixth straight season he has been a point a player for Winnipeg. He suffered an upper-body injury against the Senators back on April 10th it didn’t look good for the centre. He was later ruled out of going on and playing during the four-game road trip for the Jets by interim head coach Dave Lowry.
He wasn’t on the ice for practice today and the update from Dave Lowry as per Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet is that Scheifele is not expected to “play through the rest of the season”.
While the Jets season only has four games and eight days left in it it is still tough news for number 55.
