Winnipeg Jets make buyout of final year of Nate Schmidt’s deal official

Yesterday Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff broke the news that the Jets would be placing Nate Schmidt on unconditional waivers for purposes of a buyout. This morning we learned that he had cleared waivers and Winnipeg PR confirmed the team would be buying out the final year of his deal.

According to the folks at Puckpedia this will result in savings from his 5.95 million dollar cap of:

Year 1 $2.72M ($3.23M savings)
Year 2 $1.62M Cap Hit/Cost

Schmidt is now free to sign with any of the 31 other teams.
