Jets nation is screaming bloody murder after #85 was taken out via a cheap shot by the Hawks Daniel Carcillo. Perreault had just taken a slashing penalty, had his back to Carcillo so was taken unaware that Carcillo was coming for vengeance.
If you missed the hit, here it is:
The Jets announced that Perreault would not return for the 3rd period.
Since November 18th he has 15 goals (most in the NHL) and the Jets certainly cannot afford to lose him for an extended period of time. The team is off tomorrow so an update will likely not be forthcoming until Sunday.
According to the NHL Department of player safety they will be reviewing the hit.
Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press said coach Maurice had no update on Perreault’s status but did say that he was in the dressing room with the team. Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun added that coach Maurice called it “a vicious cross-check to an unsuspecting player”.
