Winnipeg Jets keep pace early before Tampa Bay Lightning take control in 4–1 win

The Jets hung with the Lightning for a bit but the best team in the East wins this one 3-1 to hand Winnipeg another loss. Tampa improves to 16-1-1 during their impressive run while Winnipeg drops to 21-25-7 on the season.

Notable:

Even unintentional, Logan Stanley was not making any fans in Tampa after he collided with Nikita Kucherov who left and didn’t return in the 1st (but did come back for the 2nd).

The Jets have scored first in 12 of 14 games this month but in a game where the first goal would have been a key it was the Lightning who opened the scoring on a miscue in the neutral zone by Cole Perfetti and then Elias Salomonsson didn’t adjust in time to take the now open man which allowed Dominic James to make it a 1-0 game.

Despite being down 1-0 after 20 it was a good period for the visitors given how well the home team has been playing.

The Lighting began the middle frame with a goal just 1:37 into it as Darren Raddysh fired a screened shot home to make it a 2-0 game.

No assist for Gabriel Vilardi on the Jets goal but nice work in front to create some chaos. Beauty tip by Kyle Connor who has 24 goals on the season.

We knew the visitors were in trouble when they found themselves trailing 3-1 after 40. Why you ask? Because the Jets when trailing after 40 were 1-17-2 (as per Connor Hrabchak) while the Lightning when leading after 40 are 23-1 (as per Dan Robertson). Dear Mama!

The Jets odd man rushes in this game did not look good.

Which team is trailing and which team is pushing to get back into this game? Tampa spending the 3rd period in the Winnipeg end for most of it (so far). The Bolts outshot the Jets 16-4 in the final frame despite being up by two goals.
