Winnipeg Jets keep on winning as they defeat Utah 3-0 to improve to 12-1-0 on the season

As Charlie Sheen would say the Winnipeg Jets are “winning” as they defeat Utah 3-0 to improve to 12-1-0 on the season. The remarkable start to the 2024-25 season hasn’t slowed down at all and it is becoming historic as they became just the sixth team in NHL history to get 12 wins in 13 games.

Notable:

Nino Niederreiter playing in his 900th regular season game this evening. He was given a warm cheer from the home crowd.

Every November I’m reminded that Kyle Connor’s Mo makes him a dead ringer for Jets 1.0 speedster Doug Smail.

Speaking above a carbon copy, something about these Utah Hockey Club jerseys makes me think of the old Winnipeg Ice ones. And by next season they may end up with a Yeti on their jersey as well.

Good PK for the Jets tonight as they killed off three penalties and only allowed two shots through 40 minutes.

Then the red-hot Jets PP got going late in the middle frame as PP1 took almost the entire power play but they made it worthwhile as Gabriel Vilardi tipped home the Josh Morrissey shot. That gives Morrissey 14 assists in 13 games.

With time winding down in the 2nd goalie Connor Hellebuyck did what he does which was make a big stop and then an even bigger reactionary save to keep his team up by a goal heading into the 2nd intermission.

Winnipeg was able to add to their lead and in his 900th game appropriately it Nino Niederreiter who made it a 2-0 game with his sixth goal of the season.

They made it 4/4 on the kill with another one in the 3rd as they probably don’t like taking so many penalties in a game but they were solid.

Appropriately Nino Niederreiter sealed the deal with an empty netter to make it a 3-0 game. We spoke about how important it is for that line to not just hold the opponents best but also to produce and they have done that through 13 games.

Connor Hellebuyck gets his 39th career shutout.

This really is a historic run as mentioned above (just sixth team in NHL history to win 12 in first 13 games). Their goal differential is a wild +32. The next closest Central Division team are the Wild at +9. The next closest NHL team are the Rangers at +20.

Multipoint Game:

Nino Niedeerieter 2G
Adam Lowry 2A
