With time winding down in a one goal game between the Jets and Capitals and with Washington pressing to equalize the game Josh Morrissey took TJ Oshie who had the puck in the Winnipeg zone into the boards. Here was the end result of the play:
Oshie was clearly dazed as a result and stayed down on his knees for a few seconds following the tumble to the ice. No penalty was called on the play and the Jets went on to win the game 3-1.
This morning the Department of Player Safety tweeted:
“Winnipeg’s Josh Morrissey will have a hearing for interference/unsportsmanlike conduct on Washington’s T.J. Oshie. Day and time TBD.”
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun is reporting that it will be a phone hearing for Morrissey.
When asked following practice his thoughts on the situation Jets coach Paul Maurice initially didn’t answer and then added this “Two guys went into the boards they both went down.”.
Update: The DoPS indicated that the hearing will take place this afternoon.
Update II: The DoPS has ruled that there will not be a suspension for Morrissey but he will forfeit $8,467.74, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct on Washington’s T.J. Oshie
