Winnipeg Jets interim head coach Dave Lowry anticipates Andrew Copp will be a player against Vegas

The Jets announced that Kristian Vesalainen and Andrew Copp had entered the covid19 protocols back on December 23rd although the results of the test came out on the 21st. Vesalainen was on the ice today for practice but Copp was not.

Turns out that Copp had returned home to Michigan after the Jets began their Christmas break while Vesalainen stayed in Winnipeg (although sadly for the Jets 2017 1st rounder his family came to Manitoba from Finland and he was unable to see them).

Following today’s practice interim head coach Dave Lowry was asked whether Copp had been skating in Michigan and whether he anticipated him to be a player on Sunday when they take on the Golden Knights in Vegas. He indicated:

“We do anticipate Copper to be a player. With covid protocol in the US different than Canada he will have had the ability to get on the ice. When it was time for him to come out of protocol, he’s one guy who took his equipment with him over the break, so he would have been prepared.”

Which is good news for a Jets club that will be up against a Golden Knights club which is 8-2-0 in their last ten games and sit in 1st place in the Pacific Division.

Of course with the covid rules attached to entry to Canada he won’t be able to meet the team in Winnipeg but will instead fly directly to Vegas from Michigan ahead of their four-game road trip which starts in Nevada.
