When Josh Morrissey left the game in the 3rd period of the game against the Coyotes on Sunday clutching his shoulder it didn’t look like it would be a minor issue for one of the Jets most reliable defenceman. On Monday when asked about it in his end of Trade Deadline availability GM Kevin Cheveldayoff didn’t have much to add aside from indicating that they wanted Morrissey to be further evaluated by the Jets team doctors.
Today following morning skate at Bell MTS Place Jets head coach Paul Maurice was asked about the status of number 44 and had this to say: “Josh will be out through the month of March and his window will open sometime in early April.”
Bad news for a club that has come to rely on the steady play of Josh Morrissey in their top pairing this season. In addition to his play in the Jets zone he has set new career highs for assists (25) and points this season (31 points in 59 games). Last year he had 26 points in 81 games.
For now newly acquired Nathan Beaulieu has been paired with Jacob Trouba.
