Jets fans last saw Tobias Enstrom in action back on March 8th against the Penguins. He was crushed by a Tom Sestito check from behind that left the veteran blueliner with a concussion. Today Jets coach Paul Maurice indicated that Enstrom required knee surgery which will obviously end his 2016-17 season.
Coach Maurice said that Enstrom had blocked a shot with the same knee that he had had surgery on in early February. Back then we weren’t told what exactly the lower-body injury was that he suffered in a game against Tampa Bay on February 11th. But the Jets bench boss said just two games after he returned from that surgery in February he blocked a shot against the Blues on March 3rd on his knee which resulted in the team “pulling a lot of blood from that knee”.
The concussion ultimately knocked him out of the lineup but the team was hoping that the knee would get back to full health during this down time. While coach Maurice said that Enstrom passed his neurological tests however the knee was swollen and got bad “right away”.
So the Jets and Enstrom opted for surgery which he had today and which will require 4-6 weeks of recovery.
In 60 games this season Enstrom’s production has fallen to one goal and 13 assists.
