Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel provided update on Haydn Fleury after win over Leafs

While the Jets had all systems firing two days back in their 5-2 win over the Leafs one negative was they lost defenceman Haydn Fleury to what appeared to be a knee injury late in the 2nd period of the hockey game in Toronto. If you missed it here is what happened:

He would not return for the 3rd period.

Fleury has played an elevated role since Dylan Samberg went down with a broken foot just over a month ago and who is just expected to start skating on the 27th of this month which likely means he would have remained in that role until number 54 was ready to resume his spot as the Jets second pairing left side guy.

After the game head coach Scott Arniel said:

“Just day-to-day. We’ll see how he is when we get home here. Just kinda tweaked the lower-body there. We’ll just check and see. Haven’t got anything obviously until we get home.”

Fleury has gone from playing between 11-16 minutes per night to 17-22 minutes in his current role as the second pairing guy.

The Jets are already dealing with the aforementioned injury to Samberg as well as an injury to Logan Stanley who was expected to miss the last two games (vs Wild & Leafs) as he recovered from blocking a shot against the Ducks.

With Dylan Coghlan recently sent down to the AHL with the Moose the team needed some insurance in the game against Toronto so they recalled Simon Lundmark to give them a 7th defenceman. He was returned to Manitoba after the game.

We will have to wait and see on Friday if the Saskatchewan product is skating or if there will be a recall before their game against the Sens on Saturday in Winnipeg.
