The Jets lost Nino Niederreiter to a cut to his leg in the 3rd period of their 4-3 win against the Kings on Monday night. After the game the update was he required stitches but head coach Rick Bowness didn’t know at the time if it would impact his ability to play against the Flames on Thursday.
Today when the Jets skated at hockey for all centre, Niederreiter wasn’t on the ice so naturally that was a question posted to the Jets bench boss after skate concluded.
“Nino’s probably out for about a week, hopefully not longer than that. But he took a pretty good gash in the back of his leg so there are some stitches in there that are going to require time to heal. So of the players that were not out there he’s the long term.”
Asked if he could take a glass half full approach meaning the cut wasn’t as significant as it could have been Bowness added.
“Yeah it was a pretty deep gash and it could have been a lot worse had it gone any deeper. Worst case scenario this is probably the best one and hopefully it’s not longer than a week.”
Tough news. Looks like Tyler Toffoli will step into that 3rd line spot.
