Jets goalie Connor Hellebucyk is scheduled to start his 69th game of the season when puck drops tonight in Vegas in a must-win game 5 against the Golden Knights. His backup in game 4 however wasn’t David Rittich but instead Jets 2017 6th rounder Arvid Holm, who has spent the majority of this season with the Moose of the AHL. The Jets recalled Holm on Monday, April 24th and he backed up Hellebuyck in game 4.
It wasn’t clear what was bothering Rittich. All that was known was that the veteran netminder wasn’t practicing.
He didn’t take part again today during the morning skate in Vegas. During his media availability head coach Rick Bowness was asked about his absence:
“He’s got a swollen ankle. It’s just not coming around.”
Which means that Holm will backup for the second straight game.
The Jets basically have the entire Moose goalie contingent up with them which means that Evan Cormier is your likely game 1 starter for Manitoba when they kick off their playoffs tomorrow night against the Admirals.
Before departing Winnipeg for St. Louis the Jets hit the ice for a skate.
