Some good news for a Jets team that has been in one, having lost nine of its last 13 games. After the morning skate in Montreal today, head coach Scott Arniel indicated that last season’s MVP and Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck is close to getting back on the ice “pretty soon”.
Arniel added that he’s not yet sure what things will look like when Hellebuyck gets back on the ice — “whether that’s shots or just movement or working his edges.”

Just 12 days ago, we learned that Hellebuyck would be sidelined after he underwent a minor arthroscopic knee procedure which was scheduled for the following day. At the time, his recovery was projected to take 4–6 weeks.
While getting back on the ice doesn’t necessarily mean a return to game action is imminent, it’s obviously a positive step toward Winnipeg regaining a key piece of its lineup. Arniel stated, “I’m going to make sure he has like four yellow (non-contact) jerseys on him.”
He reiterated the caution point with a laugh: “Everything’s yellow. Everything’s yellow. He’s gonna look like a Nashville Predator with a jersey.”
The date and opponent is now set.
