After a busy day in the NHL, Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff spoke to the media about the moves he made:
GM Kevin Cheveldayoff: Opening remarks about Dave Semenko. How far down did he make it down his priority list today? How important was the term for Steve Mason and Dmitry Kulikov? Where does he see these guys slotting in in terms of depth chart? On the forward depth he brought in with Sgarbossa and Robinson. Any worry about Kulikov’s back injury from last season? Did he talk to Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele about Kulikov? On Steve Mason’s potential workload. Possibility of Steve Mason getting a longer term deal from Jets. On doing his homework about Steve Mason being able to handle the pressure of the market. Is this as comfortable as he has been with his blueline? On the changing of the guard in Winnipeg. On being able to have flexibility for the cap in the future. Did they pay a little to purchase less term? How much does the term for Mason have to do with the progression he expects out of Hellebuyck and Comrie? Does he Kulikov as a shutdown guy? On the state of the team.
