Unlike last season when Jets fans were counting down to the NHL Draft Lottery, a less than exciting draft class has folks less than pumped when there isn’t an Auston Matthews or Patrik Laine to be had in the top three selections. In addition this season, unlike last year’s where they had a better chance to jump up, the Jets had just a 2.705% chance of taking top spot today whereas their odds for the status quo was 76.4% and to drop down to 13th was 14.3%.
With the live draw finished the Jets ended up dropping one spot and will select 13th overall (provided they don’t trade the pick) in Chicago at the end of June. If the Jets do keep the selection it will be the second time they have drafted 13th overall (Josh Morrissey in 2013) which worked out well. The Atlanta Thrashers had never selected in the 13th spot.
