The game between Winnipeg and Dallas wasn’t simply two very good Central teams in a measuring stick game. It was also a faceoff between two American goalies vying to be the potential starter for the U.S. in the 4 Nations Tournament in Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger.
Once the Jets made it 3-0 the fans rained down “U.S backup” chants on Stars netminder Jake Oettinger and then again when it was 4-0 on 15 shots.
He would get the hook in favour of Casey DeSmith. And after DeSmith made five saves on five shots fans were chanting “We want Oettinger”.
The “U.S. backup” chant will go into the long list of good chants we’ve seen inside the downtown arena alongside “Silver Medal” which they chanted at Ryan Miller back in 2012 for the Americans loss to Canada in 2010 and even just a few weeks ago when they chanted “Where is Rutger?” during the Pens game after the former Jets prospect was dealt this summer and then he was sent to the AHL before the game.
So where does it stack up against the laundry list of great chants? Lets us know here.
