In last night’s Jets and Ducks game Evander Kane was given a 5 minute boarding penalty as well as a game misconduct for his hit on Clayton Stoner.
If you missed the hit here it is:
It was announced this AM that he would have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for the hit. Following the hearing that same department announced that Kane would be subject to a two-game suspension for the hit.
Here is the explanation from the league.
In short they ruled that “onus is entirely upon Kane to avoid the check completely or at very least to minimize contact. Kane does neither. Instead having tracked Stoner for considerable time and significant distance Kane hit Stoner directly from behind driving forcefully into him and causing him to crash face first into the glass”.
The suspension, which is the first of Kane’s career, will cost him $56,451.62 which will go to Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
What do you think of the suspension? Fair or foul?
