Winnipeg Jets end losing streak with 3-2 OT win over the Buffalo Sabres

The losing streak is over as the captain Adam Lowry gets the OTGWG for the Jets. Fantastic play by Josh Morrissey.

Notable:

While the Jets PK was one of the few things working of late they gave up a quick PP goal to the Sabres which allowed Buffalo to open the scoring early in the 1st. However 47 seconds later they were able to tie the game courtesy of Gabriel Vilardi‘s 10th of the season as he tipped a Fleury shot from the point to tie it 1-1.

Buffalo was able to take a 2-1 lead on a rush play when Logan Stanley didn’t take away Dylan Cozens ability to be left alone in front of Connor Hellebuyck.

Dennis Gilbert and Logan Stanley got fighting majors and game misconducts.

The powerless power play went 0/3 in the first period which is less than ideal. They had some good looks but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Winnipeg had a 5 on 3 opportunity early in the 2nd period and you had the sense they needed to get something on it. Sure enough they did after a lot of looks as Kyle Connor scored his first goal in seven games to tie it 2-2. That’s his 14th goal of the season.

It looked like the Jets would be down 3-2 in the 2nd after Manitoban Tyson Kozak scored what looked like his first NHL goal in his first NHL game but video coach Matty Prefonatine said not so quick as Winnipeg challenged for goalie interference which was confirmed by video review.

After a ho-hum 3rd period which was controlled largely by the Sabres the game would need extra time which was really boring.

But what wasn’t boring for Jets fans was Adam Lowry ending the losing streak with the overtime game-winning goal off a fantastic rush up the ice by Josh Morrissey.

With the win the Jets improve to 19-8-0.
