It has been a good run for the Winnipeg Jets and as always a big part of that success is netminder Connor Hellebuyck. For the second straight week the NHL has named the top goalie in Winnipeg as a Third Star although this time it is of the Week while last week it was Third Star of the Month.
Winnipeg is on a historic run having achieved points in 12 straight games (10-0-2). The all-time best record is 13 games (10-0-3) by a Winnipeg based NHL club set back in 1984-85.
In his three starts for the week ending on Sunday (doesn’t include the Arizona game) Hellebuyck went 3-0-0 with the following save %:
.964 vs Sharks
. 941 vs Lightning
. 944 vs Wild
The Jets netminder is back at the top of the Moneypuck list of goalies in ‘goals saved above expected’* with 15.6.
He was also named as the Jets NHL All-Star rep last week.
* For those unfamiliar with the term it is defined as:
Goals Saved Above Expected: Expected Goals against minus the actual number of goals the goalie has let in. A positive number means the goalie is stopping more goals than an average goalie would.
