Yesterday during the pre-game media availability with Jets head coach Rick Bowness the question mark was about the health of Nikolaj Ehlers who left the game against the Devils after he had his head bounced off the ice in the 3rd period. While the 2014 1st rounder would be fine to play in the game against the Rangers last night 2020 1st rounder Cole Perfetti would not be according to his bench boss.
Rick Bowness offered this up on Perfetti:
“Cole Perfeti is out. Upper-body injury. He will be re-evaluated probably tomorrow, Wednesday. So he’s out for tonight.”
When asked when the injury had occurred:
“During the game at some point. He played through it.”
When asked if it was connected to the upper-body stuff he suffered in the past:
“That’s being reassessed.”
Last question from a persistent Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet was whether there was any concern it could be long-term:
“It’s going to be reassessed.”
Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press did ask at the end of the scrum whether Perfetti could potentially be a player against the Islanders:
“It’s going to be reassessed tomorrow.”
Veteran forward Sam Gagner returned to the lineup and the question mark surrounding Perfetti leaves the Jets without an extra forward. We shall have to wait and see if the Jets make a recall for the final game of their road trip against New York on Wednesday.
The Moose are currently in Winnipeg as they prepare for their next game of this eight-game homestand which goes Thursday against the Admirals.
Update:
The Jets announced that they have placed Perfetti on IR and recalled Axel Jonsson-Fjallby from the Moose on an emergency basis.
