Jets top centre Mark Scheifele has missed the last two games after he appeared to tweak something in the game last Thursday against the Blackhawks which saw him leave the game early in the 2nd period. While there was plenty of speculation that it would be a serious injury Scheifele was labelled as day-to-day by his head coach the next day and the team was hopeful he could play Saturday in Ottawa.
That hope seemed very unlikely when 55 didn’t take part in practice this morning in Winnipeg and it was later confirmed by Jets bench boss Rick Bowness after skate that Scheifele would be on the three-game road trip but will not play tomorrow against the Senators.
Bowness indicated that Scheifele will be “re-evaluated on Monday. He’s making progress with this thing. Clearly it’s gone on a little longer than we originally thought, so that’s fine. That’s all part of it so we’ll see where he is on Monday.”
Follow-up question asked if Scheifele is skating or working out yet and he said he isn’t.
“Just getting treatments at this point.”
The Jets are scheduled to practice on Sunday in Boston.
