Jets coach Paul Maurice, in his media availability today, was asked if surgery was an option being considered for Blake Wheeler. His response was clear:
“No. This is a rehab situation. He’s gonna get, I don’t even know second opinions, enough people have looked at it, they have a very good handle on what it is. They’ll let the swelling come down for three or four days and then say ‘ok’. The problem is if you talk to Blake yesterday he thinks he’s ready to play pretty soon. But this is going to be awhile. We know that.”
From the end of that quote that doesn’t mean it will be quick process but obviously the team and the experts they are consulting feel that rehab will be best for the health of Wheeler and ultimately his return to the ice.
