The news filtered out this morning that the Jets had recalled top D prospect Elias Salomonsson for the first time in his career up to the big club. The reason was there was uncertainty surrounding the status of top-4 defenceman Neal Pionk who left the game on Sunday in the 1st period.
Somewhat unexpectedly the Minnesotan was on the ice today at hockey for all centre ahead of practice as per our IC intern Zach Nolan.

After the skate, head coach Scott Arniel said, “P (Pionk) is day-to-day. He actually skated today, which is good news. He’s coming on the trip.”
Sounds like they avoided a bigger injury with number 4 as Arniel said in a follow-up answer:
“When we first heard, thought it was a lot more severe. Thought I’d be giving you the old week-to-week, but got the day-to-day, which is real good news. He’ll have to obviously see how it feels after skating today, but it was good that yesterday it felt a lot better than it did during the game. That’s a good sign.”
It’s good news for the team but also good for prospect Elias Salomonsson who will get his first NHL game tomorrow night.
The date and opponent is now set.
