He has spent the last two seasons in Winnipeg and it looks like it will be another five as Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff announced today at the IcePlex that the team has extended Mathieu Perreault. He had one season left before today’s announcement was made. He will receive 3 million for this next season and then beginning in 2017-18 he is set to be bumped up to 4.5 million. Then he will receive 4 million for the next three. The AAV is 4.125 million.
It sounds like the deal isn’t yet “official” as the Jets GM said “we are just in the final processes of agreeing to terms with Matty Perreault on a four year 16.5 million dollar extension. The paperwork is going back and forth but we’ve agreed to terms with him on that” although the Jets clearly must feel that the deal is done or else they wouldn’t have announced it.
Of course Jets coach Paul Maurice must believe it is already done as he announced “Mathieu has found his place. He has found his home.”
