Earlier today we learned the Jets made a move putting Dylan Coghlan on waivers. This got folks buzzing wondering what else might happen before puck drop tonight against the Ducks especially with the question as to whether Nikita Chibrikov would be able to play after blocking a shot in the 1st period and leaving the game in San Jose last night. He did return and finish the game but perhaps there was a hiccup today.
The folks at PuckPedia are reporting (confirmed on the NHL media site) that the Jets have activated Nikolaj Ehlers off of IR and placed David Gustafsson on it. Gustafsson has been in concussion protocol since December 10th when the Bruins Trent Frederic punched him in the face at centre ice. He’s been on the ice with his teammates in a non-contact uniform as he works his way back to health.
A couple of days ago Ehlers was still considered day-to-day after getting into his first full practice with the team in a regular uniform. The dynamic winger has been out of the lineup since a game back on November 29th in Vegas. While it was initially not thought to be too bad he’s subsequently missed the last nine games.
Provided he is ready to go he will provide the Jets with quite a boost as they look to close out the Moms Trip going 3/3. Puck drop in Anaheim is at 9 PM CST. Be sure to join us after the game on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show.
