Winnipeg Jets 2020 2nd Round Draft Pick (40th overall): Daniel Torgersson

The Jets have selected 6’3″ Swedish winger Daniel Torgersson from Frölunda HC.  While Winnipeg has become Finnipeg through the draft, Torgersson joins some other Swedes in the Jets organization including David Gustafsson, Simon Lundmark, Arvid Holm & toss in Kristian Vesalainen since he speaks Swedish.

Here is how he was ranked:

Ranked #31 by ELITEPROSPECTS.COM
Ranked #70 by FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS
Ranked #27 by TSN/CRAIG BUTTON
Ranked #114 by MCKEEN’S HOCKEY
Ranked #13 by NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING (EU Skaters)
Ranked #33 by DOBBERPROSPECTS/ROBINSON
Ranked #53 by TSN/McKenzie

Here is what the folks at Elite Prospects had to say:

He’s a good skater for his size, with a powerful push to his stride. He’s so well-balanced on his skates, and just incredibly hard to knock off of the puck. Torgersson has great timing in his movements as he adjusts to the defenders and the puck-carrier to open passing lanes. He’s excellent at finding open space in or around the slot to give himself enough time to shoot.

The Draft Analysts wrote this:

Torgersson is one of the hardest-working wingers you’ll find in this draft. Only a few, however, can provide the balanced approach and level of lethality he brings to puck possession. He is quite capable with the puck both in open ice and during close-quarter battles, and he can serve a variety of roles from net-front presence to one-timer option from the right circle. An energetic 6-foot-3 winger with soft hands and a plus shot like Torgersson is certainly a commodity, even in today’s NHL where the average player appears to be shrinking. The thing is, Torgersson has a finesse element to his game and can match or beat most offense-first forwards in a skill-for-skill showdown.  You can read his full report here.

Craig Button of TSN said this:

“Finds his way to the net and doesn’t get pushed away from there. Finds the right times to uncheck himself and take advantage of opportunities. Uses size to advantage and is difficult to displace.”
