While the kids were plying their trade at the IcePlex the big news in Jets land was that the team had placed veteran defenceman Mark Stuart on unconditional waivers for purposes of buying out his contract. Of course today is also the final day for the Jets prospects with Development Camp finishing off with a scrimmage. Following the game some players and coach Maurice spoke about the past week, their summer plans and next season.
Audio:
Kristian Vesalainen: Looking back at his first time in Winnipeg what did he think? What did he take out of camp? What is his focus for the summer? What is his plan for next year?
Nelson Nogier: His thoughts on the last week at Development Camp. What is his evaluation of the new crop of Jets prospects. How does he use his experience last year for preparing for this summer. His thoughts on Mark Stuart.
Brendan Lemieux: His thoughts on the last week at Development Camp. On where he is at. Are these games a challenge to play? What was biggest thing he took from his first year pro?
Coach Maurice: His thoughts on the Mark Stuart situation. Does it increase the need to find some left side defenceman? On the room for growth in the Jets roster. What are his expectations for July 1st (Free Agency)? Would he consider Myers or Byfuglien for the left side? What stood out for him this week at Development Camp? What stood out about Kristian Vesalainen? Assessing the prospects? Looking forward to training camp competition? What kind of input does he have with management for Free Agency? Will the Jets be more likely a team that is active in Free Agency or trades (as opposed to simply Draft and Develop)? Size of the list of players he would like the Jets to get? Does he feel like the Jets are being viewed differently this ‘courting period’? Does he feel more confident in making a pitch to free agents?
