Winnipeg Jets 2017-18 Training Camp Day 2

The Jets hit the ice in two groups today.  The first group was on the ice at 9 am and if you were busy listening to the Illegal Curve Hockey Show, you may have missed the lines and D pairs that coach Maurice rolled out.  According to Brian Munz of TSN 1290 Winnipeg they were as follows:

Laine-Scheifele-Wheeler
Perreault-Little-Ehlers
Connor-Lowry-Armia
Copp-Hendricks-Tanev
Matthias-Roslovic-Petan

Morrissey-Trouba
Stanley-Byfuglien
Enstrom-Poolman
Kulikov-Myers

Mason
Hellebuyck

Following skate we heard from some of the players.

Audio:

Connor Hellebuyck:  What was his summer like?  Why was it important to head to B.C. to work with that goalie specialist?  Nice to be able to bounce ideas off other goalies in Kelowna?  On his relationship with Steve Mason.  On not having a mentor.  What is he most encouraged about this year?  What is the biggest thing he will take away from last season as a whole?  Working on the mental aspect of the game.  What did it mean playing 58 games in the NHL last season?  The healthy competition in the crease.  Was he too hard on himself last year?  Does he feel pressure this year?  What did he most get helped with in B.C.?  How long does it take to incorporate something new he has learned into his game?

Nikolaj Ehlers:  How was it out there, getting back into the routine?  What does he take out of what he has been able to learn as an NHL player as he heads into his third season?  On playing a consistent 82 games next season.  Would he put a number on what he could do this season?  On what is missing from his game.  Can he improve by getting more comfortable with coach Maurice’s system or just experience in the NHL.  On fixing his mistakes.  Does he like getting into a pre season game so quickly?

Coach Maurice:  On today’s camp.  Everyone healthy?  What will determine what side Patrik Laine will play on?  How did Tucker Poolman look (both health wise and from a hockey point of view)?  On how he determines his line combos.  Discussing Connor Hellebuyck.  On the competition among his goalies.  Should people read much into his training camp groupings?  Is it important for Logan Stanley to get into a pre season game?  On the impact of Matt Hendricks.  On why Nic Petan is on the wing.
