Selanne, meanwhile, reportedly told a Finnish news outlet, Hockeyexpressen, over the Labor Day weekend that he will be back for a 16th NHL season, almost certainly with the Ducks. Selanne, who has been skating the past month in Finland, supposedly told the paper he is in great shape and mentally ready for the grind of another NHL season, although reports from Europe haven’t always proven accurate.

“He’s telling people around him he wants to play, but he hasn’t told me he wants to play,” Burke said.

By all accounts, Selanne is going to return to the Ducks once the team’s cap situation (aka trading Mathieu Schneider) has taken care of itself.
