Wait and see approach when it comes to Winnipeg Jets draft pick Dmitry Rashevsky

When we think of Russian prospects drafted by the Jets back in 2021 our focus tends to be on 2nd rounder Nikita Chibrikov who came to Winnipeg a few years back and has already made a good impression on the organization. But that same draft in the 5th round the Jets selected Dmitry Rashevsky with the 146th overall pick.

Following the draft there had been some talk about him joining the Moose after he completed his last season in the KHL with Dynamo but he instead signed a one-year extension. He would follow this up with a two year deal in 2023 with Dynamo.

Following free agency last summer there wasn’t much of an update aside from the team being “hopeful” he’d come over. Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was asked yesterday during the end of season media avails for an update on Rashevsky’s status and had this to say:

“We’ve have some conversations with his representatives. We actually had a Zoom call with him probably, we were on the road, so I guess it was Game 4, Larry Simmons and I. He has some decisions that he has to make. Obviously we think he’d be a perfect fit in our organization here but again there’s lots of different factors that go into their decisions and we’re still hopeful, I don’t really have an update per se to say what the chances are. But again we’ve had good conversations with him and I guess we’ll just see.”

KHL contracts conclude May 31st so we shall see if there is any movement in June.
