Update on Parker Ford who had surgery last week; no update on Winnipeg Jets prospect Chaz Lucius

Last Friday we got the latest health updates on Parker Ford, Chaz Lucius and Dylan Coghlan.

With regards to Ford last Friday the word was he was going to be out long-term with an upper-body injury. Today, following morning skate, I spoke with Moose head coach Mark Morrison who confirmed that Ford had an operation last week and that “he is a good 6-8 weeks away”. He added that everything went well and that Ford is back in the gym. Although I will note that the team doesn’t consider him to be done for the season.

Then there is the curious case of Jets prospect Chaz Lucius who was coming off major surgery last season. As we’ve already detailed the team took a slow approach to start the 2024-25 campaign for him. He played three of the first eight games to start the season which wasn’t unexpected as the team wasn’t wanting to overtax him. He didn’t play a game for a little over a month (10 games) before returning to the lineup on December 6th. From that time until January 31st he played all 21 games for Manitoba including back-to-backs. In early February he missed two games and was listed as day-to-day. He played on February 9th but then missed the next two games. On February 14th head coach Mark Morrison said Lucius has a “medical condition that needs a little bit further evaluation”. About a month (and 12 games) later still so sign of Lucius with the Moose.

In speaking today with head coach Mark Morrison he said this “Status quo on Chaz. Still seeing doctors, checking out his ailment. No more word about that from the last time we talked.” I was told that this is unrelated to the surgery that Lucius had last season.

While Dylan Coghlan won’t play tonight in the re-match with the Griffins he is expected to draw back into the lineup for the Moose this weekend when they host Calgary. He has missed the last four games (tonight will be five). When he has played for Manitoba he has been very productive scoring eight goals along with six assists for 14 points in just 18 games.
