Winnipeg Free Press: Jets made qualifying offer to Bogosian. Can’t say I’m shocked by that news but should put everyone at ease.
The Barrie Examiner: Scheifele has ‘instant connection’ with new team. Looks like the Colts are the staging ground for future members of the NHL’s Jets.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets make play for free agents. Still trying to figure out what’s happening with Bogosian but good that they qualified Ladd and Wheeler.
National Post: Redrawing the NHL map. Lots of different proposals floating around. What are your thoughts on this one?
Winnipeg Free Press: Go Jets Go. The IC team discussed this idea yesterday and we still marvel at the fact that the team that we all loved, is back in this new incarnation, but still giving people in Winnipeg the ability to chant “Go Jets Go!”
More Jets links and general NHL news including Balsillie & Hulsizer after the jump.
Toronto Sun: Jets’ Yuen first ever Chinese blueliner drafted. He should probably be referred to as player of Chinese descent, since he was born and raised in Canada but I understand the point. He can be a big role model within his community.
NHL News:
Sun Sentinel: Panthers chief executive confident franchise on right track. I can understand his anger with constant speculation that his team is moving north (and I like his play that the only move North is in the standings) but I cringe when I read that sustained success is necessary to recruit fans. Not team is guaranteed success, especially in a 30 team league. (The Bombers can’t even do that and they’re in an 8 team league).
Hamilton Spectator: What if Balsillie got us a team and RIM crashes. I’m not going to suggest that RIM is going the way of (gulp) Nortel but one has to hope that Balsillie had the foresight to plan ahead for the day his stock was no longer trading at $140 a share. Plus a franchise in Hamilton shouldn’t be solely reliant on a wealthy owner.
Globe and Mail: Potential owner runs out of patience with Phoenix Coyotes. Let’s be real, he’s run out of patience with the COG led by Mayor Elaine Scruggs and her merry band. If he has in fact walked away this isn’t going to be good for business for the Phoenix franchise. Perhaps its time to call the guy in the story above this one.
Toronto Star: Is it Doug Gilmour’s turn? That is a pretty talented list with some players that had some big impact on the game.
