The Insider Trading crew of TSN are in Nashville ahead of the Awards night which is set to get underway this evening. Darren Dreger was asked about the Pierre-Luc Dubois sweepstakes being a two-horse race.
Dreger indicated:
“Ongoing trade talks right! It seemed it has cooled with the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets primarily because Winnipeg doesn’t want to go into rebuild mode and the Montreal Canadiens don’t want to give good playing assets off their existing roster because they’re trying to turn a corner as well. But we know, as we reported, Montreal re-engaged with Winnipeg but guys I still believe that the Los Angeles Kings remain the frontrunner in the trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois. It’s something we’re watching hourly here.”
This morning on TSN 1050 Dreger had said:
“..As of yesterday the market around Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele was actually quiet. It’s quiet on those two pieces. Maybe something develops here in the days ahead.”
Fast forward 12 hours and he added this in his Insider Trading segment:
“I’m told things are starting to percolate, ‘simmer’ is the word that was used in describing the Connor Hellebuyck situation and Mark Scheifele as well.”
Amazing what a few hours and all the GMs being in the same city can do.
