The guys at Insider Trading were chatting Jets today. Pierre LeBrun was asked about the Pierre-Luc Dubois and had this to say about the RFA centre:
“We know a year ago that Pierre-Luc Dubois through his agent, Pat Brisson informed the Winnipeg Jets that he didn’t intend to sign long term. Now he’s not eligible to be UFA until next summer in 2024, but our understanding is that Pat Brisson has informed the Winnipeg Jets that his client isn’t inclined to sign an extension this summer, not even a one-year bridge. That Pat Brisson would like to work with the Winnipeg Jets on a trade for Dubois to another team. So that’s where that’s at right now. The Jets obviously can still decide to keep him for another year and try to bring him to arbitration or try to trade him at the trade deadline but the bottom line is, this looks like it’s headed to a trade, potentially this summer.”
Not a huge surprise but noteworthy nonetheless.
Then Darren Dreger chimed in on the Jets shaking up the core:
“Yeah look Kevin Cheveldayoff and the Winnipeg Jets would prefer not to have to trade any of their top player and they’re not committed to doing that or extending them. But you do have to look at the potential. What you’re hearing on the trade market for Pierre-Luc Dubois or Mark Scheifele or Connor Hellebuyck, imagine the return for any of those three players or all three of those players in this off-season. It would help restabilize the Winnipeg Jets. When you look at after next season, you cannot allow Connor Hellebuyck to walk into free agency free. So off-season deals are normally the best deals in terms of return, this is going to be a big summer for the Jets.”
