Folks will be forgiven if they missed this interesting segment from a conversation between Jeff Marek & Pierre McGuire on The Sheet as they covered Round 1 the NHL Draft on Friday night. I did as well but thankfully a helpful reader (stick tap Will) pointed it out to me.
Marek began it (at the 3:53:47 mark) discussing the agreement between Jonathan Toews and the Jets on a one-year contract saying “he has no idea what to expect” but that he hopes Toews ends up as second line centre behind Mark Scheifele. Pierre McGuire then shared an interesting story about how impactful a veteran leader like Bryan Trottier (four Stanley Cups with the Islanders in the early 80s) but was considered to be done by some, was still able to have a tremendous impact on the early 90s Penguins helping them to back-to-back Cups (McGuire was a scout and then an assistant coach with Pittsburgh during those years). The segment ends with a bit of discussion about Jets first rounder Sascha Boumedienne.
The veteran journalist shares his insight.
