From David Staples of the Edmonton Journal:

I got back from my vacation to read that the Oilers came close, yet once again, to committing salary cap suicide.

This time the team made a big pitch to sign Georges Laraque, going so far as to have owner Daryl Katz make a personal approach to his work-out buddy, and to offer big Georges $1.5 million a year for four years.

Good to have Staples back from vacation, and as usual, I couldn’t agree with him more.  The Oilers didn’t need Georges Laraque on the payroll for four seasons.  Never mind the fact that he is getting older and isn’t as keen on fighting, you can get someone who can serve the same role for a shorter term.
