Status update on Winnipeg Jets forward Nic Petan

Nic Petan was given a leave of absence from the team after he lost his father in mid September.  The status of the forward was unknown with respect to what the organization was planning to do with him.  Would he be the 13th/14th forward on the squad or would he be assigned to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL and have to clear waivers.  In the interim he was listed as a non-roster player whose salary still counted against the cap.

While the above question isn’t yet answered coach Maurice today indicating following morning skate in Nashville that the “next step is he’ll join the team. That’ll happen, I would think, the next three to five days.”  When asked if he anticipated if Petan would go to the Moose at all or whether he would join the Jets straight away the Jets bench boss said “That would be my understanding.  That would be Kevin’s (Cheveldayoff) decision.”.

Then the team will have to make a decision.  Do they assign Petan who would have to pass through waivers or perhaps assign Brendan Lemieux, who is waiver exempt?  Stay tuned.
