Stanley Cup Playoffs – Round 1 Game 3: Wild 6 Jets 2 post-game recap

Lots of penalties and lots of power play goals in the opening period of the game with the Wild getting two and the Jets getting one.

The middle frame was shocking for the Jets.  They didn’t give up any power play goals but they did give up four 5 on 5 to do down 6-2 after 40.  And to add insult to injury (literally) they lost defenceman Tyler Myers at the end of the period when he collided with Marcus Foligno.

The Jets announced that Tyler Myers wouldn’t return for the 3rd period.  Additionally, goalie Steve Mason replaced Connor Hellebuyck to start the period but the final frame was basically just about running down the final 20 minutes.

Take a look at the advanced stats via Natural Stat Trick.

Coach Maurice:  Any update on Myers?  Thoughts on the hit that took out Myers.  What was the difference in this game from the first couple?  Any idea what happened? How did the “travel day” impact things?  What went into the decision to pull Hellebuyck?  Is it possible for a team up 2-0 to match the desperation of a team down 0-2?  On the difference in the officiating tonight?  Does it not suit the Jets?  Playoff experience and how it factors into it.

Health news:

As you would expect the Jets bench boss didn’t have an update on Tyler Myers who didn’t play the 3rd period after an awkward collision at the end of the 2nd with Marcus Foligno.  Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun did tweet following the game ” Tyler Myers just walked by in the hallway. Slight limp, for what it’s worth”.
