Playoff news:
Ottawa Citizen: Curtain finally falls on Senators’ surprise season. Considering they were picked to finish 15th in the Eastern conference by many “experts”, and they took the 1st place Rangers to Game 7 in Round 1, these Sens should be commended for an excellent season.
New York Daily News: Over and Ott! Rangers move on to Round 2. Given a scare in the first Round, they now move on to play the team they were eliminated by in Round 1 last season, the Washington Capitals. Interesting that last season the Rangers were ranked 8th and the Capitals were 1st. Quite a reversal of fortunes for these two rivals.
New York Times: A Game 7 worthy of salute. It had everything you could want in playoff hockey. End to end action, great goaltending, some hitting and scoring.
Star-Ledger: Devils defeat Panthers in double OT. Marty Brodeur stood tall despite some serious pressure and the Devils were led by young gun and Jets killer Adam Henrique who silenced the BankAtlantic faithful with his goal in the 2nd overtime frame.
Miami Herald: Panthers season ends in dramatic fashion. The Panthers were like the Rodney Dangerfield of these playoffs, “they just couldn’t get no respect”. They played hard until the final goal, but just couldn’t score the GW against the venerable Marty Brodeur.
Other playoff news:
Washington Post: Fans unleash racial garbage at Joel Ward. Do people not think before they tweet? While the answer to the previous question is obvious, and while I know that having less than 140 characters to define your thoughts might be difficult for some, twitter really needs a button that pops up asking “are you really sure you want to send that tweet? Followed by a second pop-up that says “really?”. I perused a site that had listed about 50 of the hate tweets and it actually boggles the mind that people thought it was ok to actually write that crap out and then hit send.
Arizona Republic: Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators have much in common. Is the answer; “What are two teams that Jim Balsillie tried to buy”?
