Not that I believe this to be the case, but have the Wings erred at all by playing Zetterberg against Crosby and not Malkin? Malkin has clearly been the best player for Pittsburgh this series and last night he may have been as dominant as we’ve ever seen.
Now, I realize that part of this dominance is due to the fact that, for the most part, he hasn’t been faced Zetterberg and Lidstrom/Rafalski, but should the Wings start looking for that matchup? Or are the Wings okay with their current ability to limit Sidney Crosby and fear that making that switch would just allow Crosby to go off as Malkin has?
Certainly tough questions to be asking, and ones that Detroit better find an answer to. It sure helps that two of the next possible three games are at home. But what if the Penguins start loading up Malkin with Crosby again? You’d have to expect that to happen and we know that no team has an answer for that.
Let’s just say that Detroit desperately needs Pavel Datsyuk for Game 5 because sometimes the best defense, is a good offense.
