From Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen:

Controversial goaltender Ray Emery was officially shown the door by the Ottawa Senators yesterday after receiving $2.275 million U.S. as a parting gift.

The cash represents the required one-third buyout of the $6.725 million still owed to Emery for the final two seasons of a three-year contract he signed with the Senators last summer. The money can be paid out over the next four National Hockey League seasons.

Finally! The rumors of Emery being bought out have been surfacing for months now and the deal was finally done last night. Emery will certainly not be missed by Bryan Murray. It is amazing how things can change from one June to the next. As last year, Emery was the toast of town and this year the team can’t get rid of him fast enough.
