However his traditional number had been 37 which been previously worn by Atlanta Thrashers forward Dan Snyder who tragically passed away in a car accident back in 2003.
As we get ready for the 2016-17 season the Winnipeg Jets announced some new numbers that will be worn including Hellebuyck wearing #37. It appears, based on the Jets tweet, that the Snyder family supported the young Jets netminder returning to the number last worn by their son. The organization included in the tweet that the team will sew a Dan Snyder patch inside Hellebuyck’s uniform to honour Snyder’s memory.
While he never played for the Winnipeg Jets, Dan Snyder continues to be remembered each season when the team hands out the Dan Snyder Memorial Award for a player who best embodies perseverance, dedication & hard work without reward or recognition.
