Jets Release:
In an effort to recognize the dedication of all the soldiers that serve and protect our country, the Winnipeg Jets today announced the hockey club will host their second annual Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation game on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at MTS Centre when the team welcomes the Ottawa Senators. Game time is 6:30 pm CT.
The event saluting the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces will have many elements. The Jets will support the Canadian Armed Forces by wearing limited edition military themed jerseys for warm-up. All warm-up jerseys will then be auctioned online with proceeds going to Canadian Armed Forces charities. Prior to the game, an official puck drop will take place with the Canadian Armed Forces Chief of the Defence Staff General Tom Lawson. The national anthem will be performed by Canadian Armed Forces anthem singer Sergeant David Grenon, with the Royal Canadian Air Force Band, and alongside the Flag Party from Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Chippawa.
In addition, the Jets will recognize the dedication and bravery of the men and women of the CAF Search and Rescue teams. Sadly a few weeks ago one of their members, Sergeant Mark Salesse, lost his life while conducting an ice climbing exercise, and in memory of his life two members from his Winnipeg squadron will be honoured.
Canadian Armed Forces personnel attending the game are encouraged to be in uniform as they will be invited to take part in a post-game photo on the ice at MTS Centre. Only Canadian Forces personnel in uniform will be eligible for the post-game photo. All fans exiting the game will receive a Canadian Armed Forces Night poster.
True North Sports & Entertainment Limited will donate a block of tickets to Canadian Armed Forces members and their families. Season Seat Holders also had the option to donate their tickets to the March 4th game. In total, over 550 Canadian Armed Forces members and their families will be in attendance.
